The basic hourly rate formula
A simple way to estimate an hourly rate is to divide annual salary by the number of hours worked during the year.
Annual hours can be estimated by multiplying hours worked per week by the number of weeks worked per year.
Example
Suppose someone earns $52,000 per year, works 40 hours per week, and works 52 weeks per year. That represents 2,080 working hours per year, producing an equivalent hourly rate of $25.
Why the calculation can vary
The equivalent hourly rate changes if your weekly schedule, number of working weeks, paid time off, bonuses, or other compensation components differ.
